Vademecum

Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Vademecum is a living project that brings together traditional principles and contemporary perspectives on the architecture and landscape of the Amalfi Coast. Presented in written, physical, and digital formats, it also complements educational activities. Continuously evolving, it is structured around four key thematic areas:

  • Terracing: Examining dry stone walls, native vegetation, and drainage solutions, with a focus on combating excessive urbanization and mitigating landslides.

  • Façades: Defining appropriate color palettes, plasters, windows, downpipes, and awnings to preserve the region’s identity.

  • Permanent architectural elements: Including flooring, masonry, ironwork, built-in furniture, and chimneys—promoting craftsmanship and the use of local materials for cohesive and sustainable architecture.

  • Temporary architectural elements: Addressing public space furnishings, signage, awnings, and demountable structures for temporary spaces, with proposals from various architects that respect the coastal environment.
