Proporzione Mediterranea Bench
"Proporzione Mediterranea" is the result of Annarita Aversa's research on the vernacular architecture of the Mare Nostrum, with a particular focus on the vaulted houses of the Amalfi Coast. This collection—comprising seating elements and vases—draws inspiration from built-in architectural features that characterize the interiors of traditional Mediterranean homes. The project highlights the importance of studying this humble yet sophisticated architectural heritage, where every element is a perfect synthesis of form, function, and construction techniques. Each piece is photographed within one of these ancient vaulted houses, currently undergoing restoration (a project by Studio Laura Einaudi). The aim is to rediscover the visual and sensory power of the pure, harmonious forms that define this architectural tradition—what Bruno Zevi described as "a vernacular masterpiece worthy of being compared to Brunelleschi’s dome or Michelangelo’s apse of St. Peter’s." In doing so, the project draws attention to a cultural heritage increasingly at risk of being lost.
